ABOUT ME

I run a herd of around 45 suckler cows and their followers, with my Dad (Philip Close) near Turnberry, in South Ayrshire. The herd is PfL Certified, meaning they eat only pasture, and they live outside all year round.

We are equal opportunity farmers here, so bulls follow the same regime as the cows. They have less work to do, so don’t see why they should have an easier life!

For the last 5 years I’ve been managing the grazing and the breeding programme. We’re in a reasonably wet part of the country so outwintering has its challenges but I am learning more each year.
